Skoda uses Volkswagen Group oil specifications for all its engines — VW 504 00, 507 00, and 508 00. Every Skoda engine is a VW Group unit, so the oil requirements are identical to the same engines in Volkswagen, Audi, and SEAT models. Skoda's value positioning does not mean lower oil quality requirements.
VW 504 00 — Skoda Petrol Engines (5W-30)
VW 504 00 is the standard petrol engine specification for Skoda models. It covers the 1.0 TSI (EA211) in the Fabia and Scala, the 1.5 TSI (EA211 EVO) in the Octavia and Karoq, and the 2.0 TSI (EA888) in the Octavia RS and Superb. It requires SAE 5W-30 with low-SAPS chemistry. This specification enables VW Group's LongLife service regime with intervals up to 30,000 km or 2 years under favourable conditions.
VW 507 00 — Skoda Diesel Engines with DPF (5W-30)
VW 507 00 is required for all Skoda diesel engines with diesel particulate filters — the 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI found in the Octavia, Superb, Kodiaq, and Karoq. It requires SAE 5W-30 with low-SAPS chemistry specifically formulated to prevent DPF blockage. The Kodiaq and Superb 2.0 TDI are popular towing vehicles — under towing conditions, the DPF regenerates more frequently, making correct oil specification even more important to minimise ash accumulation.
VW 508 00 / 509 00 — Latest Generation (0W-20)
VW 508 00 (petrol) and 509 00 (diesel) apply to the newest Skoda engines requiring SAE 0W-20 ultra-low viscosity oil. This includes the latest EA211 EVO and EA888 Gen 4 engines in the fourth-generation Octavia and updated Superb. These specifications are not backwards compatible with 504 00/507 00. The oil filler cap on VW Group vehicles typically displays the required specification — this is the quickest way to verify.
Value Brand, Same Engineering Standards
Skoda positions itself as the value brand within the VW Group, offering more space and equipment for less money. However, the engines, oil systems, and lubrication requirements are identical to the corresponding VW or Audi models. A Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI has the same engine, same bearings, same turbo, and same DPF as a VW Golf 2.0 TDI — it needs exactly the same oil. Saving money by using non-approved oil in a Skoda is the same false economy as in any VW Group vehicle.
