PSA B71 2290 — Diesel & Older Petrol (5W-30)
PSA B71 2290 covers most DS diesel engines and some older petrol units. It requires SAE 5W-30 with low-SAPS chemistry based on ACEA C2. The DS 4 and DS 5 with the 2.0 BlueHDi (DW10) and the DS 7 Crossback with the 1.5 BlueHDi all use this specification. It is widely available from multiple oil brands carrying PSA approval.
PSA B71 2312 — PureTech Turbo Engines (0W-30)
PSA B71 2312 is required for all DS models equipped with the 1.2 PureTech turbo engine, including the DS 3 Crossback and DS 7 Crossback 1.2 PureTech 130/155. This specification requires SAE 0W-30 with ultra-low-SAPS additives and is critical for the wet timing belt's longevity. The premium DS badge does not change the underlying engineering requirement — the same belt-in-oil design demands the same strict oil chemistry as in Peugeot and Citroen models.
DS 7 & DS 9 — Plug-In Hybrid Considerations
The DS 7 E-TENSE and DS 9 E-TENSE plug-in hybrids combine the 1.6 PureTech petrol engine with electric motors. The petrol engine requires PSA B71 2312 (0W-30). Hybrid usage patterns — frequent electric-only driving with short petrol engine warm-up cycles — can increase fuel dilution in the oil. DS recommends maintaining standard oil change intervals even if the petrol engine shows low mileage, as time-based degradation and fuel dilution still occur.
Premium Brand, Same Oil Standards
DS vehicles are serviced at dedicated DS salons rather than Citroen dealers, and the ownership experience is positioned as premium. However, the oil specifications, recommended viscosities, and approved products are identical to Peugeot and Citroen equivalents using the same engine. There is no DS-specific oil standard — PSA B71 2290 and B71 2312 are the only approvals that matter.
