SEAT uses Volkswagen Group oil specifications across its entire range — VW 504 00, 507 00, and 508 00. As a VW Group brand, every SEAT engine is shared with Volkswagen, Audi, or Skoda, meaning the oil requirements are identical to their platform siblings.
VW 504 00 — SEAT Petrol Engines (5W-30)
VW 504 00 is the standard specification for SEAT petrol engines, including the 1.0 TSI (EA211) in the Ibiza and Arona, the 1.5 TSI (EA211 EVO) in the Leon and Ateca, and the 2.0 TSI (EA888) in the Leon Cupra and Ateca. It requires SAE 5W-30 with low-SAPS chemistry and supports LongLife service intervals. This is the same specification used by the identical engines in VW, Audi, and Skoda models.
VW 507 00 — SEAT Diesel Engines with DPF (5W-30)
VW 507 00 covers all SEAT diesel engines with diesel particulate filters — the 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI units found across the Leon, Ateca, and Tarraco. It requires SAE 5W-30 with low-SAPS chemistry to protect the DPF. Using an ACEA C3 oil without VW 507 00 approval may provide inadequate DPF protection, as VW's specification adds requirements beyond the ACEA standard.
VW 508 00 / 509 00 — Latest Low-Viscosity (0W-20)
VW 508 00 (petrol) and 509 00 (diesel) are the newest VW Group specifications, requiring SAE 0W-20. These apply to the latest generation SEAT models with EA211 EVO and EA888 Gen 4 engines. Critically, 508 00 is not backwards compatible with 504 00 — the engine must be specifically designed for this thinner oil. Check your SEAT service book or the oil filler cap sticker to confirm which specification your engine requires.
SEAT Cupra — Performance Models
SEAT's performance sub-brand Cupra (now an independent marque) uses the same VW Group oil specifications. The Cupra Leon and Cupra Formentor with the 2.0 TSI (EA888) producing up to 310 hp require VW 504 00 or 508 00 depending on the engine generation. Despite the higher power output and turbo boost pressure, the oil specification does not change — the VW approval already accounts for high-performance use within the engine's design parameters.
